VAS on the anvil in 2009

Although Value Added Services (VAS) has been great in 2008, but seeing some of the possibilities, we can say that VAS would be able to write new history of its success in 2009. Below is an attempt at what one can expect from VAS in the new year:

M-Commerce: New services by operators and others are being rolled out nation-wide to enable us to make bill payments and transfer funds over mobile. Efforts are being made so that users won’t need to have GPRS enabled mobile phones for making financial transactions.

Video Ad Funded Free Content: VAS operators are planning to go for it in really big way during 2009. We will see the introduction of videp ads where users will get benefit not only for viewing them but also for sharing them with others.

Movie Downloads: In 2009, u will be able to download the full movie to your mobile phone.

Serials on Your Cellphones: People will be able to view entire serials on their handsets. First to start this service is Reliance which has recently launched the Sony Prime Time Pack, which enables subscribers to view recaps of their favourite serials on mobiles.

Location Based Services: Although currently only movie theaters and restaurants only are available on location lists. But in new year, we will be able to see much more than that like schools, colleges, offices etc.

Voice Based Services: Most services available today over SMSes and GPRS will be available through voice based services.

Mobile E-mail: In 2009, e-mail will be made available to all even on non GPRS enabled phones.

Mobile Education: Efforts are on to introduce education on mobile through voice based services & also in vernacular languages which will have wide coverage accross the nation as well as be highly interactive.

Marriages Made on Mobile: Dating through mobile phones is already known. But we hope to see increase in this trend, with operators trying hard to attract young subscribers.
